Namibia lies to the north-west of South Africa and a large part of the country is covered by the relentless Namib Desert – a strip down the West Coast where the sun beats down on sand dunes the size of mountains. It was during a January 2009 trip to this foreign land that New York designer Vicente Wolf visited Sossusvlei, a clay pan in central Namibia, known for its high red sand dunes and sparse vegetation.

The structural Camelthorn Tree, watered by infrequent floods of the Tsauchab River, captured the photographer’s imagination. “It took me two days to sort of relax in this vastness of emptiness”, says Wolf of the experience. The result? A series of haunting images, capturing lengthy shadows, a lone bird and some of the highest dunes in the world, now available exclusively to readers of All The Best Blog.
